Parâng Ski Resort – Winter Destinations of Romania

Statiunea de Schi Parâng Hunedoara 01

A destination often overlooked due to its proximity to the larger and newer resort of Straja, Parang Resort is a name with weight and age in Romanian winter tourism. Tourists find here a special atmosphere, often lost in other places in our mountains, but also a generous offer for winter sports enthusiasts, in addition to the overwhelming views of the surrounding mountains and the Jiu Valley!

Location

Parang resort is located in the southern part of Hunedoara County, just a few kilometers east of Petroșani municipality. The ski area is located at an altitude of 1,700-1,800 meters, on the southwestern slope of the Parângul Mic massif in the Parâng Mountains.

Getting to Parâng Ski Resort

Access to the Parang resort is achieved by passing through the municipality of Petroșani, then following Maleia Street and Road 709F for approximately 10 kilometers. Next, tourists can take the chairlift to go up to the resort, its route having a difference in level of 700 meters. The road continues to climb, a short distance away there is now a new chairlift station (near Hotel Rusu). During the summer and when the snow cover/weather permits, the climb can also be continued on the asphalted road in recent years. You can get to Petroșani by car, bus or train, and from here you can take a taxi to the chairlift boarding station or sometimes to the resort (15 kilometers). The city’s distance from Bucharest is 330 kilometers (6 hours), Cluj-Napoca is 235 kilometers (3.5 hours), Timișoara is 240 kilometers (3.5 hours), and Craiova is 160 kilometers (3 hours).

Overview of the Ski Domain

Frequented mainly by the residents of Petroșani and by skiers who have fallen in love with its slopes, the Parang resort may not benefit from the fame and development of the surrounding ski areas, but it offers a much more authentic and peaceful experience. With 6 main winter sports slopes totaling approximately 8 kilometers, the resort also includes other tourist services. In addition to the two chairlift installations that reach approximately the same area, the slopes provide transportation only by ski lift.

Starting from the top, Slope A is also suitable for beginners (blue), with a length of 350 meters and is served by a ski lift. Slope B also starts nearby, with a total length of 3,200 meters and descends to the bottom station of the old chairlift, but only during periods when the snow cover allows it. Its first section is of advanced level (black), then becomes easy (blue).

The EuroParâng slope is 600 meters long and of medium difficulty (red), while the Sub Telescaun slope is of the same level and 370 meters long. This continues with the Saivane slope, which is 900 meters long and descends to the bottom station of the chairlift, but the last section is difficult. The last three slopes form a continuous route of over 1,000 meters, descending from the resort to the intermediate station of the new chairlift.
